Hepaticae
Hepaticae[he′pad·ə‚sē] (botany) The equivalent name for Marchantiatae. Hepaticae
Hepaticae a class of the BRYOPHYTA, a division that contains the liverworts. Liverworts are found in damp and wet conditions and vary in form from species that have a fleshy THALLUS up to 1 cm wide to others (leafy liverworts) which are very MOSS-like. Reproduction in liverworts may be vegetative, by means of GEMMAE, or sexual, ANTHERIDIA and ARCHEGONIA being present. The male gametes are motile and fertilization results in the development of a capsule containing diploid spore-mother cells. Each spore-mother cell carries out meiosis and produces haploid spores that may develop into a PROTONEMA, which in turn gives rise to the new haploid adult gametophyte.Hepaticae Related to Hepaticae: LiverwortsSynonyms for Hepaticaenoun liverworts: comprises orders AnthocerotalesSynonyms- class Hepaticae
