Hapgood, Isabel Florence Hapgood, Isabel Florence(1850–1928) translator; born in Boston, Mass. She spent ten years learning every Germanic and Romance language before starting her career in 1886 as a translator, essayist, and reviewer. From her voluminous output she is best remembered for her many translations of Russian masterpieces, particularly Turgenev's novels and stories (16 vols. 1905). |
