an urban-type settlement in Altai Krai, RSFSR, under the jurisdiction of the Slavgorod city soviet. Iarovoe is situated on Lake Bol’shoe Iarovoe, 6 km southwest of the Slavgorod railroad station on the Karasuk-Kulunda line.


Iarovoe

 

the name of two closed bitter salt lakes, Bol’shoe Iarovoe and Maloe Iarovoe, in the western Kulunda Steppe in Altai Krai, RSFSR. Lake Bol’shoe Iarovoe covers an area of 66.7 sq km and has an average depth of 2 m and a maximum depth of 7 m. Lake Maloe Iarovoe, covering approximately 30 sq km, has an average depth of 2 m and a maximum depth of 5 m. Both lakes are fed by snow. The range of fluctuation in the level of Bol’shoe Iarovoe is 0.8 m. The bottom of Bol’shoe Iarovoe is composed of silt with layers of mirabilite. Salt is extracted.
