Ilia Borshchov
Borshchov, Il’ia Grigor’evich
Born July 19 (31), 1833, in St. Petersburg; died Mar. 30 (Apr. 12), 1878, in Budishche, Chernigov Province. Russian botanist and chemist; professor at the University of Kiev (beginning in 1868).
In the work Materials for a Botanical Geography of Aral-Caspian Krai (1865), Borshchov presented a general sketch of the krai and a botanical geographical analysis of its flora. He put 66 species of plants on the map of the area for the first time. He was the author of works on the classification of flowering plants, the anatomy and physiology of plants, and colloidal chemistry.
