high-risk mortuary

high-risk mortuary

A term of art for a mortuary in the UK which has personnel experienced in performing port-mortem exams on patients who died with Hazard Group 3 infections (e.g., HBV, HCV, HIV and Creutzfeldt-Jakob agent) and dedicated instruments for high-risk autopsies (e.g., an autoclavable power saw and fully disposable protective clothing). Autopsies of patients with known Hazard Group 4 pathogens are not performed in the UK.
