[‚iŋ·krə′ment·əl ′dəmp ‚tāp] (computer science) A safety technique used in time-sharing which consists in copying all files (created or modified by a user during a day) on a magnetic tape; in case of system failure, the file storage can then be reconstructed. Also known as failsafe tape.
