Imaginal disks

masses of hypodermic cells, carried by the larvæ of some insects after leaving the egg, from which masses the wings and legs of the adult are subsequently formed.

Imaginal Disks

histoblasts, clusters of undifferentiated cells in the bodies of the larvae of insects, nemerteans, and echinoderms, from which the final (definitive) organs are formed during the metamorphosis of the larva to the adult animal. Specifically, imaginal disks are characteristic of all insects with complete metamorphosis and of some with complex incomplete metamorphosis (Aleyrodidae, Coccidae).
