BHACAS
Beating Heart Against Cardioplegic Arrest Study. A trial comparing beating heart—off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB)— to conventional CABG.Conclusion
2–4 years after surgery, patients randomised to OPCAB and CABG-CPB had similar symptoms, generic and disease-specific QoL; OPCAB is as effective as conventional CABG-CPB in improving QoL.
Logistics
200 patients to off-pump and 201 to on-pump coronary surgery, excluding patients who had had an MIin the past month or required grafting of the circumflex artery distal to the first obtuse marginal branch.
