[¦grād ′līn] (civil engineering) A line or slope used as a longitudinal reference for a railroad or highway.

grade line

A line usually marked with stakes or monuments, each having an elevation referred to a common datum; by measurement or computation from such elevations and stakes, a grade is established between the terminal points.
