Adamson, Amandus Henrich

Born Oct. 31 (Nov. 12), 1855, on the farmstead of Uuga-Riatsep, near Paldiski; died June 26, 1929, in Paldiski. Estonian sculptor. Studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg from 1876 until 1879, or possibly until 1881. Academician from 1907 on.

In Adamson’s contradictory art, realism coexisted with a tendency toward academicism and a pursuit of superficial beauty. Adamson created several monuments, including a monument in Tallin to the sunken battleship Mermaid (1902), and many small works of sculpture.
