Guereza

or mountain guereza (Colobus guereza), a slender ape of the monkey family. Male body length, 70 cm; tail length, 90 cm. The fur is black; white hairs grow around the face, hang in strands from the sides of the body, and form a luxuriant tuft on the tail. Its thumb is very small, but the other fingers are long and form a hook to grasp branches when the guereza moves rapidly from branch to branch. The guereza has no cheek pouches. It inhabits Ethiopia, travels in groups of 15 or more, and feeds on leaves. The guereza is very rare, since it was heavily hunted for its beautiful hide.
