Gordon, Il’ia Zinov’evich

 

Born Dec. 2 (15), 1907, in the village of Zelenopol’, in present-day Zaporozh’e Oblast. Soviet Jewish writer. Member of the CPSU since 1944. Born into a peasant family.

Gordon treats rural themes, rarely found in prerevolutionary Jewish literature, in such works as Weeds (1928). He is the author of the collection of stories In the Green Cornfield (1930), the novel Ingul the Boyar (1935). the tale Three Brothers (1938; Russian translation. 1962), and the book In Our Parts (1969).
