Special Features:The site of a village once inhabited by the Indians of the IliniwekConfederacy. The Iliniwek, or Illinois, were one of the three mostsignificant native groups occupying Missouri at the time of firstEuropean contact. This site is the only known Ilinewek village inMissouri, and historians believe it was visited by explorers Marquetteand Joliet on their 1673 expedition down the Mississippi River.
