Grain Cleaner

Grain Cleaner

a machine for removing dust, dirt, and similar particles from grains of wheat and rye. It also removes some of the fruit coverings and seeds, and it hulls the grains of such groat crops as oats, millet, and barley.

A grain cleaner has a fixed cylinder, in which a rotor equipped with steel beaters rotates. The beaters throw the grain against the surface of the fixed cylinder. Cleaning is achieved by the friction of the grains against the cylinder. Depending on the required degree of cleaning, the surface of the cylinder is either rough (causing intensive action) or smooth (causing mild action). The separated particles are drawn off by suction.
