A style of architecture where mechanical and electrical building services and structural elements are not only exposed but emphasized by using different colors to indicate their respective functions, which accentuates the machinelike aspects of the building.

A mode of architecture in which the building services are not only revealed, but are emphasized. For example, ducts and pipes may be painted in bright colors to indicate their respective functions. An outstanding example is the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
