Horse Asthma

Immunology Horse allergy
Use of the term horse asthma—which has been defined as extrinsic (allergic) asthma attributed to equine dander and hair—should be discouraged given its wider use in veterinary medicine for a disease of horses
Veterinary medicine Any of a number of conditions—e.g., summer pasture associated obstructive pulmonary disease (SPAOPD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)—affecting some horses exposed to high amounts of spores, silage dusts and other dried particulate matter
Clinical findings Chronic cough, dyspnoea, wheezing, heaving, strained abdominal muscles, reduced performance and flared nostrils
Management Corticosteroids and bronchodilators
