Hsieh Tiao

Hsieh T’iao

(also Hsieh Hsüan-huei). Born 464; died 499. Chinese poet. Relative and follower of Hsieh Ling-yün.

Hsieh T’iao’s most effective works are his landscape lyrics. The poet devoted a great deal of attention to the melodic quality of his verse and to the use of parallel construction. His work contains many elements later developed in the poetry of the T’ang dynasty period. More than 140 of his poems, written in various genres, have been preserved.
