Established: 1992.
Location:7 miles east of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and 20 miles west of Mobile, Alabama.
Facilities:Viewing sites.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:The refuge's coastal marshes contribute essential food and cover for many varieties of marine animals, including spotted seatrout, red drum, flounder, blue crab, and shrimp.
Habitats: 14,000 acres of tidal marsh and pine savanna. Proposed acquisition will encompass 32,000 acres.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Gopher tortoise (threatened), bald eagle (threatened), red-cockaded woodpecker (endangered), brown pelican (endangered).
