Established: Authorized on July 25, 1956.
Location:In east central Alabama, on AL 49, 12 miles north of the town of Dadeville.
Facilities:Picnic area, rest rooms (é), boat ramp, visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities:Hiking, canoeing, fishing, auto touring, living history programs.
Special Features:On March 27, 1814, at the "horseshoe bend" in the Tallapoosa River, General Andrew Jackson's forces and an army of 3,300 men attacked 1,000 Upper Creek warriors and opened large parts of Alabama and Georgia for settlement. More than 800 Upper Creeks died defending their homeland.
