Aguls


Aguls

 

a nationality living in southern Dagestan ASSR, in the Agul and Kurakh raions. According to the 1970 census, there were 8,800 Aguls, approximately 1,800 more than in 1959. They speak Agul, which belongs to the Lezghian language group. Aguls are related ethnically to the Lezghians and are still divided into four groups, which live in four canyons: the Aguldere, Kurakhdere, Khushandere, and Khpiukdere.
