Ince, Thomas H. (Harper)

(1882–1924) film producer, director, screenwriter, actor; born in Newport, R.I. He made his stage debut at age six, and later appeared on Broadway and in films. In 1910 he began directing Mary Pickford movies. He used detailed, tightly structured scripts, which he often wrote himself. By 1916 he devoted himself to producing and writing. He is best remembered for Custer's Last Fight (1912), Civilization (1916), and Human Wreckage (1923).
