Iazyges
Iazyges
a nomadic Sarmatian tribe that formed a tribal alliance and in the second century B.C. settled in the region around the northern shore of the Sea of Azov. In the Iazyges’ society the clan structure began disintegrating, and a class society took shape. Together with the Roxolani, the Iazyges warred against the Roman Empire. In the winter of A.D. 69 they invaded Moesia. In the following year they repeated their raid but were defeated. In the mid-first century of the Common Era the Iazyges were known between the Danube and Theiss (Tisza) rivers. In the second century some of them settled in Pannonia. In the early Middle Ages the remaining Iazyges intermingled with other peoples of Central Europe.
