the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Highways, founded in Moscow in 1936 to replace the Central Scientific Research Institute for Highway Construction and Maintenance, known as the Scientific Research Institute of Highways until 1953, when it took its present name—Soiuz Dor NIL

The Highway Institute studies and develops standards and technical documentation (practical standards, regulations, specifications, instructions, norms) for the designing, construction, and maintenance of highways and highway bridges. The institute has four branches (in Leningrad, Omsk, Tashkent, and Alma-Ata) with both intramural and correspondence postgraduate programs; it has the right to hear dissertation defenses for the degree of candidate. The institute has issued Trudy since 1938 and publicizes recommendations and scientific information.
