Herihor

Herihor

an ancient Egyptian high priest of the temple of Amon in Thebes, who after the death of the pharaoh Ramses XII in 1070 B.C. seized power in Upper Egypt and northern Cush and assumed the royal title. His origins and length of reign are unknown. Secular and religious authority were combined during Herihor’s rule, and consequently a number of Egyptologists regard the governmental structure of Upper. Egypt during this period as a theocracy.
