Location:Gulf Islands National Seashore is a 12-unit park located in Mississippiand Florida. The two districts are about a two-hour drive apart. The Florida District of the national seashore is located just south of Pensacola, Florida. Historic mainland forts and the National Museum of Naval Aviation are accessible via FL 295, south of Barrancas Ave., through the main entrance of the Pensacola Naval Air Station. The Naval Live Oaks, Fort Pickens, and Santa Rosa areas can be reached via US 98 east from Pensacola. Facilities:Campgrounds, picnic area, rest rooms (é), groceries, restaurant/snacks, bicycle trail, bathhouse, visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming, boating, fishing, snorkeling, bird-watching, guided tour.
Special Features:Offshore islands have sparkling white sand beaches, historic forts, and nature trails. Mainland features of this unit, which is located near Pensacola, include the Naval Live Oaks Reservation, beaches, and military forts. All areas are accessible by car.

Established: Authorized on January 8, 1971. Wilderness designated on November 10, 1978.
Location:Gulf Islands National Seashore is a 12-unit park located in Mississippiand Florida. The two districts are about a two-hour drive apart. The park headquarters of the Mississippi District of the national seashore is located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and is accessible via I-10 and US 90. The islands in the Mississippi district are 10 miles offshore and can be reached only by boat. During the spring, summer, and fall, excursion boat trips from Gulfport to West Ship Island are offered by a concessionaire. Special Features:Sparkling beaches, historic ruins, and wildlife sanctuaries, accessible only by boat, can be found on the offshore islands of this unit, located near Pascagoula and Biloxi. On the mainland there is an urban park with a nature trail and a campground at Ocean Springs.
