ICSH interstitial cell–stimulating hormone (luteinizing hormone).ICSHAbbreviation of interstitial cell-stimulating hormone.ICSH Abbreviation for interstitial cell-stimulating hormone. LH (luteinizing hormone) or ICSH (interstitial cell-stimulating hormone) a glycoprotein hormone produced by the anterior PITUITARY GLAND. In females it brings about ovulation on the stimulus of increasing OESTROGEN from the ovarian tissues, and causes a change in the GRAAFIAN FOLLICLE to form a CORPUS LUTEUM. LH also stimulates the corpus luteum to produce PROGESTERONE which in turn inhibits the production of LH and thus the subsequent production of progesterone (an example of a FEEDBACK MECHANISM), menstruation then taking place. In males it causes ANDROGENS to be secreted by the testis.ICSH
