ictal-bradycardia or asystole syndrome

ictal-bradycardia or asystole syndrome

A proposed term for cases of sudden unexplained death in epilepsy (SUDEP) in which there is a link between focal epilepsy and arrhythmias, attributed to the spread of seizure discharges to involve areas of the brain with autonomic regulatory activity. Stimulation of the anterior cingulate, uncus, orbito-frontal cortex, insular and temporal cortex during neurosurgery for epilepsy triggers both brady- and tachyarrhythmias and epileptiform discharges.
