Gulomaliev, Gulomkhaidar

 

Born 1904 in the village of Vomar, now in Rushan Raion, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast; died Apr. 19, 1961, in Dushanbe. Soviet choreographer and musical figure. People’s Artist of the USSR (1957). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Gulomaliev was one of the founders of professional music and choreography in the Pamirs. In 1936 he organized the first amateur artists’ group there and in 1943, a children’s song and dance ensemble. Beginning in 1956 he was director of the Pamir Ensembje of Folk Music, Song, and Dance, which he founded.
