Hermansson, Carl Henrik

Born Dec. 14, 1917, in Boliäas, in the Iän (county) of Gävleborg. Figure in the Swedish working-class movement.

Hermansson graduated from the faculty of social sciences of the University of Stockholm in 1940; he holds a master’s degree in political science. While in secondary school, he worked in the Sundsvall organization of the Social Democratic Youth League of Sweden. In 1941 he joined the Communist Party of Sweden (CPS), and in 1946 he became a member of the party’s Central Committee and of the Politburo of the Central Committee (in 1964 the Central Committee and Politburo were renamed the Administrative Committee and the Executive Committee, respectively).

Hermansson was editor in chief of the theoretical journal of the CPS, Vor tid, from 1946 to 1957 and of the newspaper Ny dag from 1959 to 1962. From 1953 to 1961 he was secretary for propaganda of the Central Committee of the CPS. He served as chairman of the Left Party-Communists (known as the CPS until 1967) from 1964 to 1975. He was first elected a deputy to the Riksdag in 1963. Hermansson has written on economic and political issues.
