Iessen, Aleksandr Aleksandrovich

Born July 11 (23), 1896, in St. Petersburg; died Mar. 31, 1964, in Leningrad. Soviet archaeologist. Specialist in the archaeology and ancient history of the Caucasus of the Bronze Age and in the history of the production of metal on the territory of the USSR under the primitive communal system.

lessen was the author of a number of works on intertribal and ethnocultural links and prehistoric art. His principal works are On the Question of the Oldest Copper Metallurgy in the Caucasus (\\915), Greek Colonization of the Northern Black Sea Coast (1945), On the Chronology of the “Great Barrows of the Kuban’ “(1950), The Center of Metallurgy in the Kuban’ Region at the End of the Copper-Bronze Age (1951), and The Caucasus and the Ancient East in the Fourth and Third MillenniaB.C. (1963).
