Hermosilla Álvarez, Carlos

 

Born 1905 in Valparaiso. Chilean graphic artist and painter.

Hermosilla Álvarez studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santiago in 1930 and 1931. In 1939 he began teaching at the School of Fine Arts in Vina del Mar. His works include engravings, lithographs, charcoal drawings, and paintings. Hermosilla Alvarez has created psychologically expressive portraits of workers, peasants, and progressive figures in Chile; a notable example is Old Toyo (linocut, mid-20th century).
