Location:On the north edge of Calumet along State Highway 169, halfway between Grand Rapids and Hibbing.
Facilities:Mine site, museum, exhibits, visitor center (é), gift shop, picnic area, picnic shelter, playground, flush toilets (é).
Activities:Mine tours, interpretive programs (seasonal), fossil hunting.
Special Features:Historic open-pit mine was one of the richest iron ore mines in thenation and is now a tribute to the mining industry. Tours into the pitoffer visitors views of the mine pits, lakes, and rock walls in variousshades of red, and tell about the mine operation, the people who workedhere, and where they came from.
