Benson, George

(1943– ) musician; born in Pittsburgh, Pa. A respected jazz guitarist who gained unprecedented success in popular music, he worked as a sideman with Brother Jack McDuff in 1963–65, made his first solo records in 1966, and was a staff musician for CTI Records between 1970–75. In 1976, his recording "Breezin'" became the first of several Top Ten records that he released.
