Hill, J. (Joseph) Lister

(1894–1984) U.S. representative/senator; born in Montgomery, Ala. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem., Ala.; 1923–38) and to the U.S. Senate (1939–69), he helped shape the Tennessee Valley Authority project, the GI bill, and the Hill-Burton Hospital Act.
