bentiromide test

ben·tir·o·mide test

a test of pancreatic exocrine function that does not require duodenal intubation: orally administered bentiromide is cleaved by chymotrypsin within the lumen of the small intestine, releasing p-aminobenzoic acid that is absorbed and excreted in the urine; diminished urinary excretion of p-aminobenzoic acid suggests pancreatic insufficiency.

bentiromide test

A now-abandoned test of exocrine pancreatic function based on digestion of bentiromide (N-benzoyl-l-tyrosyl-p-aminobenzoic acid) by chymotrypsin, yielding p-aminobenzoic acid which was measured in urine.
False positivity
Liver disease, renal failure, malabsorption.

bentiromide test

Gastroenterology A 'tubeless' pancreatic function test in which bentiromide–N-benzoyl-l-tyrosyl-p-aminobenzoic acid is cleaved by chymotrypsin, yielding p-aminobenzoic acid which is measured in urine False positivity Liver disease, renal failure, malabsorption. See Pancreolauryl test, Tubeless test.

bentiromide test

A test of the secretory output of the PANCREAS other than of insulin and glucagon. The test depends on the breaking-down effect of pancreatic digestive enzymes on a marker given by mouth.
