Gurdzhaani
Gurdzhaani
a city (since 1934); the center of Gurdzhaani Raion, Georgian SSR. Located on the right bank of the Ala-zani River valley. Its railroad station is 122 km east of Tbilisi; a branch line (21 km) runs to Tsnori. Population, 10,000 (1970). Gurdzhaani is the center of an important vineyard and wine-making region of Georgia. There are wine-making, canning, distilling, brick-making, and mechanical repair plants. A museum of local lore is also located there. The mud-cure health resort of Akhtala is near the city.
