Grapow, Hermann

 

Born Sept. 1. 1885. in Rostock; died Aug. 24, 1967. in Berlin. German Egyptologist. Academician of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin (German Democratic Republic).

Grapow was the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the German Academy of Sciences. He is the author of studies on the Annals of Thutmose III and of a series of works on the life, literature, science, medicine, religion, and language of ancient Egypt. With A. Erman he published the most comprehensive dictionary of the ancient Egyptian language. Grapow was awarded the German National Prize in 1953 and 1959.
