Bouchardat, Gustave
Born June 4, 1842, in Paris; died there Nov. 22, 1918. French chemist. Professor of mineralogy at the Paris Pharmaceutical School.
Bouchardat’s work was done on sugars and turpentines. By the action of heat (1875) and hydrochloric acid (1879) on isoprene, which he had isolated from the products of thermal decomposition of rubber, Bouchardat was the first to obtain a synthetic rubberlike product.
