Hertz Oscillator

Hertz Oscillator

a very simple antenna used by Hein-rich Hertz (1888) in experiments that confirmed the existence of electromagnetic waves. It consisted of a copper rod with metallic spheres (or strips) on the ends, with a spark gap to which an induction coil was connected. The smallest of the oscillators used by Hertz was 26 cm long; oscillations were excited in it at a frequency of about 5 × 108 Hz, which corresponds to wavelength λ = 60 cm.
