Gustynskii Chronicle

a Ukrainian chronicle compilation of the late 16th and early 17th century, named after the manuscripts of the Gustynskii monastery in the Poltava region. The first part of the Gustynskii Chronicle is similar to the content of the Hypatian Chronicle; the second (independent) part, covering events of 1300–1597, is quite brief. Apart from the Hypatian Chronicle, the author of the chronicle also used the Voskresenskii Chronicle; Byzantine, Polish, and Western European chronicles; and some Russian annals. The author cites his source materials in the margins.

The Gustynskii Chronicle contains valuable information about the history of the Ukraine, Rus’, Lithuania, and Poland. The author defends the Ukrainian people and the Orthodox Church and denounces Polish Catholic aggression.
