Huttig equation

[′həd·ik i‚kwā·zhən] (thermodynamics) An equation which states that the ratio of the volume of gas adsorbed on the surface of a nonporous solid at a given pressure and temperature to the volume of gas required to cover the surface completely with a unimolecular layer equals (1 + r) c r /(1 + c r ), where r is the ratio of the equilibrium gas pressure to the saturated vapor pressure of the adsorbate at the temperature of adsorption, and c is the product of a constant and the exponential of (q-ql )/ RT, where q is the heat of adsorption into a first layer molecule, ql is the heat of liquefaction of the adsorbate, T is the temperature, and R is the gas constant.
