Gvozdev, Aleksei Alekseevich

 

Born Apr. 27 (May 9), 1897, in the village of Bogucharovo, in present-day Tula Oblast. Soviet specialist in the field of reinforced concrete and construction mechanics. Hero of Socialist Labor (1971). Doctor of technical sciences (1937). Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1967).

Gvozdev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Transportation Engineers in 1922. His main works are in the field of investigating monolithic and prefabricated reinforced-concrete structures and the design of building structures by limiting states. Gvozdev developed a theory of calculating statically undefinable structures by the method of limiting equilibrium. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1951. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and also medals.
