Hassi Rmel

a settlement in Algeria, in the northern part of the Algerian Sahara, in Laghouat Wilaya. Hassi R’Mel is Alge ria’s major producer of natural gas, with an output of 4.7 billion cu m in 1973. The gas field was discovered in 1956. A natural-gas pipeline has been laid from Hassi R’Mel to the port of Arzew, where a liquefaction plant has been constructed.
