释义 | Holyoke, SamuelHolyoke, Samuel(1762–1820) teacher, composer; born in Boxford, Mass. He graduated from Harvard College in 1789 and that same year contributed songs to the Massachusetts Magazine. He first compiled hymns in Harmonia America in 1791 and his Columbian Repository of Sacred Harmony, copyrighted in 1802, contained over 700 tunes for hymn books, including many of his own such as "Arnheim." Living in Salem in the 1800s, he conducted singing schools and concerts and published several music collections. |
