Location:In southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

Special Features:Refuge is home to one of the most concentrated black bear populations on the east coast and the nation's largest remaining stand of Atlantic white cedar.
Habitats: 111,000 acres of forested wetland, with the 3,100-acre Lake Drummond located in the heart of the swamp.
Access: Open from dawn to dusk.
Wild life: Warblers, wood ducks, barred owls, pileated woodpeckers, robins, blackbirds, black bear, bobcat, foxes, and white-tailed deer.
