Heated Ground
Heated Ground
the simplest form of sheltered ground. Fallow beds and ridges and warm seedbeds are heated biologically, and heated plots by means of water. Plots are selected with natural protection from prevailing winds, a southern or southwesternslope, and a water-permeable subsoil. The heated ground is covered with a translucent covering, straw mats, or paper to protect plants from frosts. At first, flowers or early vegetable crops and transplants for open ground are grown in heated ground. Later thermophilic vegetable or flower crops are grown. Heated ground is used in the central strip of European USSR from early April through September.
