Hirosaki

(hērō`säkē), city (1990 pop. 174,704), Aomori prefecture, N Honshu, Japan. A commercial center, it has industries that produce silk and lacquer ware. It is a former castle town and has 17th-century ruins.

a city in Japan, in Aomori Prefecture; situated on the northern part of the island of Honshu. Population, 163,400 (1974). Hirosaki is a transportation junction. A center of the woodworking and timber chemistry industries, it also has enterprises of the food-processing industry. Handcrafted tsugaru-nuri lacquer ware is produced. A university is located in the city.
