(Ando Hiroshige) (än`dō hērō`shēgā'), 1797–1858, Japanese painter and color-print artist of the ukiyo-e school. His prolific work includes a series of landscapes (1833) entitled Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido Highway. He painted flowers, fish, and birds, but his important prints are landscapes, frequently snow, rain, mist, or moonlight scenes. From him WhistlerWhistler, James Abbott McNeill,
