Greater Weever

(Trachinus draco), a fish of the family Trachinidae of the order Perciformes. The elongated and narrow body measures up to 40 cm long. The mouth is large and slants upward. The spines of the fins and of the gill cover have poison glands; the sting is very painful and dangerous to humans. The greater weever burrows in the sand and waits for small fish and crustaceans. It is found in the coastal waters of the Black and Mediterranean seas and also along the western coast of Europe.
