Heat Setting

a process that stabilizes the dimensions, reduces wrinkling, and improves the appearance of synthetic fabrics. Heat setting is accomplished by the heating of the fabrics to 220°C in a dry environment or to 130°C in a wet-steam environment, followed by rapid cooling. The duration of the process is 10 to 90 sec. When synthetic thermosetting resins are used in the finishing of various fabrics, heat setting constitutes the treatment at 140°–170°C of materials previously impregnated with resin.
